Howard serves on the External Relations and Advocacy Committee and the Finance and Audit Committee

Howard was born and raised in Vancouver and has lived in Richmond with his wife, Marla, since 1997. They have three children: Marissa, Elise and Jake.

Howard began his business career with his family’s retail clothing chain during the 1980s and 1990s. In 1997, he founded an automation and control systems company serving government water and wastewater utilities in British Columbia, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean.

In 2014, Howard became Executive Director of the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery Board, which operates cemeteries and a funeral home serving the Jewish community throughout Greater Vancouver. He obtained his Funeral Director licence in 2018 and remains deeply committed to providing families with compassionate, dignified and professional care.

Howard has a long record of civic, community and organizational leadership. He currently chairs the City of Richmond’s Economic Advisory Committee. He served on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Airport Authority from 2011 to 2020 and is a former board member of the Vancouver Hospice Society. He also serves on the national board of the Jewish National Fund of Canada and has contributed to numerous civic and community organizations.

Philanthropy and community service have long been important to Howard. He has supported a wide range of charitable initiatives through volunteer leadership, fundraising and direct community involvement, including helping to organize the Richmond Terry Fox Run. His philanthropic work reflects his belief that strong communities are built by people who are willing to contribute their time, experience and resources to helping others.

Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Howard enjoys playing ice hockey. He has also been a licensed private pilot since 1983, flying recreationally and for business.

Howard is proud to support the BCFA and its work to strengthen the funeral profession, promote high standards of service and advance the compassionate care provided to families throughout British Columbia.
